A Quality Roof System
It is important to use quality products designed to increase the life of your new roof. A quality roof system has six essential components:
Eave Protection: an ice & water membrane to protect vulnerable areas on a roof from ice and water damage should be installed at the eaves and around any openings (skylights, chimneys, dormers, etc)
Underlayment: a synthetic underlayment is stronger than organic felts and is your roof’s secondary barrier against moisture.
Roof starters: an integral part of your roofing system Installed below the first row of shingles and are a requirement for the manufacturers wind resistance warranty.
Ridge cap: are designed to cap off the roof at the peak of the hip with a thicker nailing area to prevent tearing.
Venting: proper ventilation is required to keep your attic cool and prevent your shingles from pre-maturing aging. For a typical roof a rule of thumb is that one vent is required per 300 SF of attic space to work in conjunction with your soffit venting.
Drip edge: to help control the flow of water away from the fascia and into the eavestrough by overhanging the roof with a metal flashing.
The Estimate - We want to ease the purchasing process by keeping the information clear and communicating the importance of choosing a quality roofing system as it will help alleviate expense in the long run. Our team will work with you to ensure you’re getting the correct products to fit your home and your budget. Our estimate will give you three options:
Good – an architectural laminate shingle
Better – a performance shingle to protect against wind uplift and severe weather
Best – a premium shingle to protect against hail with a Type 4 impact resistant rating
The Installation - We are certified installers for two of the best selling brands in Canada. We are COR certified and a safe installation is our commitment. Each member of our staff, before stepping on to a roof, will undergo an extensive safety and quality training. By taking these steps we have achieved an excellent safety record, to leave you feeling confident in our professional hands.
For each project we believe in going above and beyond by:
- Quality: using quality products tat we are proud to install
- Safety: protecting both your home and property, but maintaining a secure perimeter to eliminate potential threat of physical harm
- Clean up: Before we leave your home all eavestroughs will be cleaned, and remaining garbage will be hauled away
Shingle manufactures offer great warranties but most home insurance policies do not cover damage resulting from poor workmanship. Please remember if your shingles are not installed correctly it will void your warranty.
Aftercare: You will be provided with a 5-year workmanship warranty through Transcona Roofing and a limited lifetime material warranty from the Manufacturer. With sixty years of proudly installing and maintaining Manitoba roofs, we can ensure our care will be there for you for many years to come.
Preventative Maintenance: To protect your investment we offer Preventative maintenance annual inspections for $99. The inspection includes a comprehensive inspection of your roof system including all roof penetrations such as vents, chimney, plumbing stacks, and flashings. Once inspection is completed, a written report, including a quote if any damage is found, will be provided.
Common Roof Problems:
Hiring a quality contractor:
It is important that the contractor that you hire to install your roof has:
- Liability insurance
- Workers Compensation
- Health & Safety program (COR certified)
- Manufacturer approved installers
Fact: Did you know, that for every $1 you spend on your roof leak, there is an average of $12 dollars in interior damages waiting to happen if the roof fails.
The majority of warranty applications are denied due to installation error
Most home insurance policies do not cover faulty workmanship of the contractor.
Snow removal: Allow our professionals to take care of any snow removal. Many customers attempt to clear snow themselves and are not aware of the damage caused such as breaking shingles or creating holes from chipping away at ice. Snow removal will be performed by a qualified two-person team who have been provided the proper training to ensure minimal damage. Removing the bulk of the snow, clearing sidewalks of any snow removed from roof, and clearing snow from ice dams to allow the sun to melt anything remaining. One cubic foot of snow weighs approx. 20 pounds so it is important to start removing snow from your roof when it gets higher than 1 foot..
